🚀 Customer Success Story: Technological University Dublin Adopts D2L Brightspace for a Seamless User ExperienceAt D2L, we’re thrilled to share the success story of Technological University (TU) Dublin, a leading higher education institution in Ireland serving over 26,000 students across five faculties and three campuses. TU Dublin embarked on a transformative journey to unify their digital learning environment, selecting D2L Brightspace to provide a consistent and cohesive experience for all students and staff.The ChallengeFormed in 2019, TU Dublin needed to streamline digital learning technologies across its campuses. Each campus had its own virtual learning environment (VLE), creating a fragmented user experience. The goal was to align the university under one VLE, enhancing the digital education strategy and improving the overall learning experience.The SolutionAfter a thorough evaluation of various platforms, Brightspace emerged as the ideal choice for TU Dublin. Key features that influenced this decision included robust reporting functionality, seamless integration capabilities, a large community site for support and documentation, and 24/7/365 helpdesk access.The ImplementationDuring the 2023/24 academic year, TU Dublin focused on training staff and engaging them in the transition to Brightspace. Eamonn O’Brien, Senior Manager VLE, highlighted the importance of stabilizing operations and maximizing the benefits of the new platform. The university plans to integrate Brightspace with their student records management system and continue to refine and enhance the platform’s use.The ResultsTU Dublin successfully implemented Brightspace, providing a unified VLE that harmonizes the student and staff experience. The move supports the university’s strategic intent to be an agile, technology-enabled institution. Their goal was to create a seamless, engaging experience for teachers, enabling them to participate in professional development at their convenience.💡 Solution: Utilizing D2L Brightspace, Radboud University developed seven professional development courses featuring interactive content and standardized structures.     Are Online Short Courses a Revenue Opportunity for UK Universities?🚀 The financial struggles of UK higher education institutions (HEIs) are evident, with over 50 institutions cutting jobs and closing departments. As undergraduate fees depreciate and international student numbers decline, it's crucial for UK HEIs to rethink their strategies and explore new revenue streams. 📉 Traditional degree programs are facing challenges, but there's a growing trend towards shorter, online courses. Neil Mosley's recent blog highlights the potential for these courses to provide a profitable revenue stream. The PwC report even notes that short online courses can be a financially viable option for universities.🎓 Many HEIs have already ventured into the world of Continuing Education (CE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with significant revenue. For instance, in 2022-23, UK HEIs generated approximately £720 million from CE and CPD courses, with top institutions like Kaplan Open Learning, LSE, and the University of Edinburgh leading the way.📈 However, there's still untapped potential.
