After more than 30 years in the floral business, the owner of The Enchanted Florist in Pasadena says she has always taken the meaning behind a flower arrangement to heart, whether it is celebratory and hopeful, grieving or regretful. LOUISVILLE, Ky.—TheValentine's Day hustle at Susan's Florist gets started well before the calendar turns to February.Myriad roses needto be ordered for the storefront at 2731 Preston Highway. Grids have to be taped on top of colorful vases to hold up flowers during transportation. Be sure to adhere to social distancing best practices as you enjoy your self-guided stroll.Fluers de Villestakes places at various times of year in cities across the globe, from London to Seattle, as well as in several Canadian cities. Other Fleurs de Villes events have been curated around Vancouver over the past few years, though this is the second time there's been a Christmastime display. Chrest said.Chrest said although the position can be demanding, one of her most meaningful goals as a florist is to make each customer smile.“It’s a lot of hard work, especially during those extremely long days; But the results achieved at the end of the day are advantageous,” she said.The same went for Niki Nygaard of Flower Central in Minot as her business has been busy during the pandemic since people are steadily sending flowers and plants to their loved ones. “During the week of Mother’s Day, I stood on my feet for over 80 hours designing flowers,” said Nygaard. “Being a florist is fun as it keeps you busy, but it’s very demanding as the holidays are crazy.”When operating during non-holidays, Flower Central regularly staffs nine employees. During holidays Nygaard said she fluctuates due to high demand. To meet the needs of the customers, she employs 16 workers to have more hands available for deliveries and curbside assistance. For example, in the week of Mother’s Day, she had six vans running concurrently each day to help deliver to customers.Following strict guidelines during the pandemic, Flower Center has limited the shop to two to three customers inside at a time. Upon arrival, if customers decline curbside assistance, they are offered rubber gloves or hand sanitizer before entering the shop.“We have to change how we do things now and then,” said Nygaard. “Like when we hand out deliveries, we call ahead to have the customers meet us at the door. We set down the order on their doorstep, so there’s no hand-to-hand contact.”Flower Centrals’ hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.Flower Central, Peony Petals Floral & Gifts and Perfect Petals are gearing up for Memorial Day and the festivities of graduations. COVID-19 pandemic has brought hard times onto some local businesses, Okanagan flower shops are busy — some say even busier than ever.The period around Easter and Mother’s Day is typically busy for florists, and despite current circ*mstances, this year is no exception.At Burnett’s Florist in Kelowna, business has been steady.“Our Easter was more busy than it usually is, and we’re hoping Mother’s Day is the same," floristGalena Clancy said.Kelowna’s Funky Petals, Harris Flower Shop in Vernon and Newell Flower Shop in Kamloops are all busy during the pandemic as well."I think it's mostly because people are kind of communicating from a distance with flowers," Clancy said.Harris Flower Shop's Brenda Gedaschke says that many of her customers want to send flowers for birthdays, or just to cheer people up.Florists have shifted to accommodate current public health orders, offering online ordering and contactless delivery.Harris Flower Shop has even installed an honour bar outside their store, where customers can pick up arrangements and leave money in a locked collection box.“(The honour bar) has been spectacularly well received,” said Gedaschke, adding that there has only been one customer who didn’t leave enough money for their bouquet.The real challenge during the pandemic has been getting flowers from suppliers, Gedaschke said."At this point everything is limited,” she said. “A lot of the import stuff, up until recently,... https://infotel.ca/newsitem/okanagan-florists-busy-during-pandemic-some-busier-than-ever/it72772
