I bought a Philips 55PFL5402/F7 TV a 55" 4K. Seems like I just bought it to replace a SONY adversely affected by a nearby lightning strike. But not really... it was bought 9/10/2017. My wife wrote the date on the back.

This TV is in fact a "Smart TV"... I think it knows I am on Furlough.

First thing we noticed was a blue ray player that seemed it didn't output anything..We didn't use it much.... But months later realized (after buying a new Blue Ray) that actually the TV's HDMI port #1 had failed. So I had 2 ports left. Firestik has always been in port #2.

Tonight I watched port #3 paint an ugly picture and then failed completely. So now ONLY port #2 works. I don't think I got an extended warranty , I usually don't. I could call Walmart (yeah I know that was my first mistake?) call them tomorrow and see.. but even IF I did... it's likely expired now also.

The label shows an address of P&F USA Inc. PO Box#2248 Alpharetta, GA. Right down I-85 from upstate SC. What I want to do now, is throw this thing through a window. But they only show a PO Box. I hear GA is re-opening barber shops and restaurants, I could get my haircut then too.... on my way to jail?

OR

I could maybe get some kind of HDMI switch box..and use that until the last HDMI port fails. ...Sounds like good money after bad.

I suspect paying to get this TV fixed is likely stupid...or not??

Question is: (Seriously)
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
EDIT: I just found this:

Will try it tomorrow. If it works I still WILL NEVER buy another Philips.

Cheap 4K TVs are cheap 4K TVs. Have you tried unplugging for a minute, or a day? I had a Sony TV that could be "fixed" if I unplugged it for a month! And that was an expensive Wega TV. (7 inputs! If only they still made TVs like that).

That said, if a product breaks out-of-warranty, but in a reasonable time, I look up the corporate officers and find a nice VP, and write a letter telling them how much I liked the product and how disappointed I am that a brand I trusted let me down. This can work! I send the letter by Certified Mail although an overnight letter (Fedex, etc) could also work.

BTW, I do use a 4X2 HDMI switcher, which also has audio extraction for my stereo receiver. It works "okay" but the audio is usually MPEG regardless of the source, so I also have the BD player connected directly to the stereo. I bought a new 6X2 but haven't tried it yet; people online said it still had that problem passing native audio - sometimes!

We have had some power fails occur but not during storms. Lately, real quick OFF/ON then OFF/ON.
Duke energy switching. The link above does talk about removing power and even going back to Factory reset. The more I read that.. the more I expect the instructions given may just work.

I wonder if Philips has a "Customer Service" toll free. Gonna check that too.

The best HD tv's back in the day was the PIONEER ELITE it even had a wood grain finish around it but it cost $10,000.00 great picture it was a plasma.TODAY i recommend the LG OS 65 inch OLED not the UHD this model is amazing unlike other 4k's this tv has many apps on the bottom of the screen,it has numerous HDMI ports and has 4 video options,It is such a well made tv i paid $1500.00 2 yrs ago NOW it is $2100.0 I have never heard of a TV that the price goes up instead of down after 2 yrs. You will be very happy with this tv. forget the rest.NEVER buy an 8 k tv no one is broadcasting that format yet except for a couple of broadcast sent out to the Japanese tv market.

KOSMO, your main board has failed. If you're handy with a screwdriver you might be able to fix it on the cheap.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/55-Philips-LED-TV-55PFL5402-F7-DS7-AY1R7UH-55UL-Digital-Main-AY1R7MMA/254562797041?epid=28019875702&hash=item3b452005f1:gMy Philips TV - I need to VENT!!! (7)VIAAOSwGytejDL5

You would have to take the back off and see if the numbers on your board match those in the listing.

HABS,

Thank you for your thoughtful reply to my question "WHAT WOULD YOU DO". You got me checking into this. There is another company out there that sell lots of these boards (Jimmy's). They have a video. Apparently there is also some setup required even if I get the exact board. that seems a little scary to me. But I am gonna take the back off and see what I have. But the price is right.

The video shows about 550 screws to remove just to get the back off.

Also didya notice that the photo shows a PROM with 'AY1R7UH' while what he is advertising is a little different AY1R7MMA? Probably just a reference photo.

Very best regards,
KRAMER

Yes for some tv's it's very important to match the board numbers. I don't have any knowledge about this set so I would suggest getting the identical replacement if possible. There should be no setup required after installation other than perhaps a channel scan and user/picture settings.

I looked up your board on ShopJimmy quickly before doing an ebay search. Didn't see any on ShopJimmy but they are a reputable outfit.

I will try one. I especially like the fact that it has no battery. Usually the battery is dead when ya need it.

And you say you have (6) !!

Habs,

A recent T-Storm finally took out the last of 3 HDMI's. So I did what you suggested took the back off and the main board was GRAVY to remove. I ordered a very cheap one from e-bay and it should be here soon. My only hope is that it is easy to setup. I know it will be an easy hardware install. I could have spent 6 times as much at Jimmy's (If they even had that board). But I am concerned that Jimmys claims to have technical help in setting the thing up. And I hope I don't need any. However now with COVID they wont answer the phone (just a recording) so I wondered how much help they would be in some kind of a chat, went ahead and ordered the eBay board.

A friend of ours is an electrician and is going to improve my grounding or try to find out why storms always affect that part of the house (an expansion) as it did in 2017, and not at least 2 other rooms where I also have a lot of electronics.

My grandson was holding a charging iPhone when a very close one hit and he said he felt it. Not too cool.

Anyway thanks Habs, for the nudge..I seem to be making progress w/o spending much cash at all.

Excellent. Hopefully the board you receive is not a dud.
