Last week, I shared my research at the Entomological Society of America Annual Meeting in National Harbor, MD. It was a great opportunity to network with professionals in my field, reconnect with friends and mentors, and share everything I've been working on lately! As a lab we also explored D.C.! What a great opportunity and I'm so grateful to work with an inspiring team of scientists!

Last week I attended the SEC Emerging Scholars Conference in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It was a great opportunity to represent Vanderbilt and to network with peers with diverse research interests at institutions within the SEC. The conference provided me with valuable insight as I prepare for my next steps in a research and teaching career in academia!

I recently traveled to Baltimore to share my research with those that attended Vector Encounter at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The conference showcased the exciting research happening with regards to mosquitoes, ticks, and sandflies!Some of the work I shared comes from my recent publication in the Journal of Insect Physiology that shows how temperature and age, individually and interactively, shape mosquito body size and composition. I recently received the Outstanding Graduate Student Laboratory Instructor award from Vanderbilt’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Hickory Stick Award for an outstanding teaching assistant from Vanderbilt’s Department of Biological Sciences! Both awards recognize efforts to design a lab course to teach undergraduate students both important skills specific to my field of research and skills they can use in their future careers in science. Congrats to everyone that was recognized for their efforts in research, teaching, mentorship, and science communication!

I recently completed the Professional Advancement Career Training (PACT) Initiative program through the Entomological Society of America (ESA)! It was a great program focused on networking, mentorship, and career development.

So excited to have the opportunity share my work at the Entomological Society of America conference in Vancouver this week! I’m having a great experience at the conference, making many new, valuable connections for my career in entomology!
