Here is a google map I put together for this years Rás Tailteann which starts in Tullamore on Wednesday. The map can be opened in the google map app and allows users to see their own location in relation to the main points of each stage along with the route itself. It's a great tool for team staff and race fans. Original data for this map was created as individual digitial route maps for each stage. These digital files are instrumental for elite cyclists, before, during and after an event. #Rás2024 #RásTailteann #Cycling #Ireland #RaceRoutes #GIShttps://lnkd.in/eXZKhBwS

I've added in scheduled/expected times into the main points of each stage to make things a bit easier. Click into the particular point and you'll see the times.

I'm delighted to be able to offer mapping solutions to this year's Rás Tailteann. The Rás has been in existence for 70 years now and along with being the biggest bike race in the country it's also one of the most important annual sporting events in Ireland. More detailed stage maps and some other cool stuff to come in following weeks. Stay tuned!#rás2024#rástailteann

The 6th of June 2024 will see the 80th anniversary of D-Day and I'm excited to share a relevant highlight from my experience in the Digital Mapping and GIS course at ATU! As part of a captivating project, I utilized ArcGIS StoryMaps to trace the journey of Easy Company from the renowned Band of Brothers series, from their beginnings in Camp Toccoa, Gerorgia, through to D-Day. This innovative platform provided a dynamic canvas for storytelling, integrating text, images, and video.Diving deeper into the features, I leveraged several tools within ArcGIS StoryMaps to enhance the narrative:1. Swipe: Created a compelling contrast by juxtaposing historic and contemporary aerial images, accurately aligned using Ground Control Points (GCPs) in QGIS.2. Express Map: Employed for quick information addition, showcasing basic lines to represent the original Camp Toccoa in Georgia.3. Map Tour: Seamlessly tracked the journey, automatically moving from point to point, offering an immersive experience with adjustable zoom levels.4. Web Map: Utilized extensive data from an Excel file, generating layer files in QGIS, and incorporated them into the Web Map with historical basemaps.5. Background Audio: Added a dramatic touch to certain images, enhancing the overall storytelling impact.6. Slideshow: Went beyond a traditional image gallery, incorporating maps to dynamically progress the story with timeline-based information.7. Sidecar: Ideal for emphasizing text over geography, providing a smooth transition through changing maps as users scroll through survey details.8. Image Gallery: Developed a self-explanatory yet impactful feature, allowing for a more in-depth exploration of items mentioned in the text.9. Embed: Easily incorporated external video and audio sources, enhancing the multimedia experience.ArcGIS StoryMaps truly empowered me to weave a rich narrative, combining various elements seamlessly. Grateful for the opportunity to explore the extensive functionalities of this platform in bringing history to life! #GIS #Storytelling #ArcGISStoryMaps #DigitalMapping #DDay #BandofBrothers #EasyCompanyhttps://lnkd.in/eYp4RcXm

Continuing from my previous post about the Glastonbury Festival map project: With all the geo-referenced shapefiles securely in place, I recognized a vital information gap that people were seeking. In response, I harnessed these files to create a publicly accessible Google map (unofficial). The Google Map was meticulously upgraded to align with the final (V5) version of the official map, incorporating comprehensive details from the official "Access" map, along with the precise locations of bars, 75 vendors and various other points of interest.I'm thrilled to share that the map has achieved remarkable success, garnering over 690,000 views to date (less than four months). Remarkably, within just 28 days from the moment of its publication until the festival's commencement, the map had already been viewed an astonishing 250,000 times.Click the image below to visit the map#GlastonburyFestival #EventMapping #GoogleMaps #SuccessStory 🗺️🎉

During my Digital Mapping and GIS course at ATU, I embarked on a fascinating project: recreating the official map of the Glastonbury Festival 2023 (V1). 🗺️Though it went above and beyond the project's requirements, this endeavor provided an invaluable chance to hone my GIS skills 🌐🛠️.I'm thrilled to share both the official version and my rendition (unofficial) for comparison. While mine may be an 'image' map, it's fully geo-referenced, showcasing my commitment to precision and detail. 🌍🔍 #GIS #Mapping #GlastonburyFestival #AtlanticTU
